IWe just got back from our spring break vacation in Miami.  It was so nice to be in warm sunshine after such a long winter.  My whole family really appreciated being outside and under the sun.  And who doesn't like eating ice cream in April, in eighty degree weather.  Perhaps the most surprising thing on the trip was seeing the new fashions that all the girls were wearing.  It seems the hottest trend these days is birthday dresses.

I didn't even know what a birthday dress was until I stopped to ask a girl who was wearing them.  Apparently, a birthday dress doesn't necessarily have to be worn to a birthday party.  It's just called that because the styles are so fun and joyful... it's as if it's your birthday.   Some girls call them party dresses.
The main qualities of these dresses are comfort and style.  So this has to be the kind of dress that a girl can wear to a birthday, church, a ceremony, or even just around the house.  They can't be so formal that they need a lot of care.  A girl should be able to just throw it on and toss it in the washing machine when it gets dirty.  If she has to take it to the dry cleaners, it's not a birthday girl dress.  It's something else entirely.  Some girls like to call them party dresses.  This is fine, but not entirely accurate because a birthday dress is more versatile.  It can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.  And above all, it is comfy cozy!
